A look under the VEIL OF BLOOD; DVDetails

Independent filmmaker Joe Lemieux sent along details and a couple of photos (see below) from his long-in-the-works horror feature VEIL OF BLOOD, which has now been unleashed on DVD. He describes the movie as “equal parts flaming intestines and over-the-top humor: Mutilated bodies, head crushing, eye gouging and spoon spanking come together in a hilarious horror stew!”
Specifically, VEIL OF BLOOD (now available at Amazon.com for just $10) is about an ancient evil entity that is awakened due to a mob hit and goes on a rampage through the New England town of Arkwich. An alcoholic cop, a crazed professor and a band of gangsters have to join forces to stop the carnage. “When I wrote the script with producer Tim Dennis,” Lemieux tells Fango, “we wanted to create a story about a golem. There haven’t been many movies about one—it appeared in two early motion pictures, but that’s about all. The golem is based on Jewish folklore, and has a history of avenging wrongs and kicking ass.”
Dennis also stars in VEIL OF BLOOD, along with Nicole Dionne, James Mundy, Steve Holda, Kyle Jennings, Barbara Neel, David Totty, Lauren Vaughan, Karen Vaughn and Brian Ward. Michael Neel, director of DRIVE-IN HORRORSHOW (see review here), served as editor. “Mike is a lifelong fan of horror films—as am I—from silent films like THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI to the classic Universal monsters to EVIL DEAD II,” Lemieux says. “We worked together to make the offbeat comedy and disembowelings work just right.
“We made VEIL OF BLOOD over a period of six years,” he continues, “and packed the DVD full of extras that chronicle the whole journey and experiences of making the film. While Tim and I were writing the script, I saw ROCK ’N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL and HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD, and I thought we should have a band perform in the middle of the movie for no rhyme or reason.” In the movie’s first cut, this music-video sequence—featuring The ILL performing “Monster”—was deleted for pacing reasons, but the disc offers the option to watch VEIL with or without the sequence, which is also included separately among the supplements. Other special features include:
• Audio commentary by Lemieux, Dennis, Neel, Ward and postproduction sound supervisor Matt Terry
• “Unveiled: The Making of VEIL OF BLOOD” featurette
• “The Ballad of One-Eyed Rolf” FX featurette
• Deleted scenes
• Midnight premiere footage

DRIVE-IN HORROR SHOW (Music DVD Review)

DRIVE-IN HORROR SHOW
Long gone are the days where record labels could throw truck loads of money towards radio, retail, and the print media in order to shove their artists down the collective throats of the masses. The record store is going the way of the dinosaur. Day after day, another magazine folds while secretly a group of tree's breathe another sigh of relief; and Hell, who even listens to the radio anymore when anyone who has hands usually have some MP3 player or phone with MP3 capabilities dangling from their 5 fingered appendage?
projectionist4Passion, creativity and drive are the first three adjectives that sprung to my mind as I watched Drive-In Horrorshow's DVD sampler load this morning. The staff at DIHS love what they do and it comes though amongst the music video's, movie trailers, and behind the scenes footage that makes up this sampler.
The DVD is broken up into three sections; music video's, movie trailers, and some behind the scenes footage.
MUSIC VIDEOS
* Hotblack "Slip of the Skin" - Motorhead fights Zombies.
* The Coffin Lids "Creepy Crawl" - 60's Mod with a goth twist.
* Bill "Steve Pepper" - Actor / Musician / Artist; Bill Gage is an inspiration and a superstar in the making.
* Graveyard BBQ "Creamskull Boogie" - Hatebreed playing tribute to delta blues guitarist, Robert Johnson
* Ajax Ray O'Vaque "Love is a Twisted Melancholy Disease" - Catchy indie pop with electronic flourishes.
* Common Thrill "Hollywood Nights" - 'Bends' era Radiohead with Robert Smith on vocals. Nice!
* Trouble on the Airwaves "Bombshell" - If Sonic Youth were to do a side project with Garbage...
* Sleight of Hand "Heart Full of Soul" - Glen Danzig sound-a-like re-imagining a Yardbirds classic.
MOVIE TRAILERS
Next up are several trailers for some upcoming films. 5 years in the making, 'God of Vampires' shows that nice things can come with small budgets. The creators of'Veil of Blood' looks like they attended the Bill Zebub school of filmmaking. "Elvis' Dream Attack' stars our friend Bill Cage and needs to be seen to be believed. Again, DIHS shows that you do not need major money to create something entertaining.
Given an indie level budget, everything from the music video's to the movie trailers look very professional. All in all, a highly enjoyable sampler from this up-n-coming company. I will be watching out for what's next!
